Anya Johnson

Anya Johnson is an Associate Professor and Deputy Head of Discipline in Work and Organisational Studies and Co-Director of the Body, Heart and Mind in Business Research Group at the University of Sydney Business School. Anya is the recipient (with Helena Nguyen and Sharon Parker) of the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) 2020 Award for Innovation and Excellence in Research and the University of Sydney Business School Engaged Research Award (2017). She is also Associate Editor of Group and Organisation Management. Anya’s research is in the area of Organisational Behaviour. Specifically, Anya investigates how employees regulate their emotions and cognitions in the workplace, and the relationship between the design of jobs and teams and outcomes such as engagement, well-being, mental ill-health and performance. Anya has collaborated with the Mental Health Commission, the Black Dog Institute, the Brain and Mind Institute and SafeWork NSW to create a series of highly regarded publications and industry reports on creating mentally healthy workplaces. Anya has also collaborated widely within healthcare, working on co-designed projects with over 20 hospitals including a current project on Junior Doctors Mental Health funded through NSW Health JMO BeWell program. Prior to her academic career, Anya worked in international management consulting in the UK, Hong Kong and the USA working with companies on managing change and in Australia in the community sector with disadvantaged young people and homelessness
